Back from Brooklyn

Back from Brooklyn

I’ve been a bit quiet on the blog front over the last week so we have lots to catch up on.

When I left you last, I was winging my way to New York so let’s start there.

Here I visited Whole Foods for the first time, felt snow on my face, went out for a long lunch, drank a couple of cocktails, did a bit of shopping, added a few new items to the accessories drawer, attended a proper American swim meet, rode the subway, purchased a couple of glass goblets and 4 teacups from Anthropologie and watched many films including About Time, Gravity, Enough Said, The Heat and One Direction – This is Us.

Yeah, what of it?

I did not turn a single page of either of the two books I packed, nor did I wear more than 2 pairs of the 6 pairs of shoes I packed.

The Greek God(zilla) called me regularly to update me on how the solo parenting gig was going at home. The first call came in at 7.45am while I was waiting to board my flight and he had been on call for approximately 1½-hours.

“I don’t know what to do, love! He just won’t get out of bed!” boomed the voice on the other end of the line shortly before I was passed over to a sleepy 4-year old to ask why he would not get out of bed.

“Because I’m still tired, Mummy”

Well there you go then.

More calls were made to enquire where certain pieces of clothing could be located and to ask how to set up a recording on the Sky TV box.

A 20-minute FaceTime session was required when left to deal with a 4-year old who had decided he no longer wanted to attend a birthday party if it meant having to leave the house halfway through an episode of Doc McStuffins.

More calls were made when he refused to eat his lunch and again when he demanded another chocolate biscuit because ‘Mummy lets me’.

“I don’t know how you do it” sighed the Greek God(zilla) at which point I raised my hands to the sky and mouthed FINALLY down the phone.

Out loud I told him he was doing a fab job and I would be home soon.

5-days whizzed by and before we knew it we were winging our way back to London, where a real drama awaited me.

So glad you had such a good time – loved following it all on Instagram. Hilarious how they struggle without us – reminds me of Hubs texting me halfway through #Honkopoly to ask what programme he should put the washing machine on to! Can’t wait to read the next installment, and to catch up soon x
