Wake-up Call

Wake-up Call

It was around 5am this morning when I first heard my name being called.

At first it was just a gentle whimper but the longer I ignored it, the more insistent the voice became until finally it boomed ‘MUUUUMMMMMMMMMMMMMY!!!!’

I pulled back the duvet, tiptoed out of bed and found Zachy waiting for me on the other side of the stairgate to his bedroom, bleary eyed and holding his arms up to mine.

Without speaking a word, I lifted him over the gate and carried him back into my own bed.  I climbed in beside him and settled my head down on the pillow for another doze.

“I want Bear and Piggle and Ben Elf and Bunny’ said Zachy.

I tried to look like I was sleeping peacefully.

The Greek God(zilla) was doing quite a good job of that too.

‘I WANT BEAR AND PIGGLE AND BEN ELF AND BUNNY!’

So I got up again and tiptoed back to Zachy’s room, collected Bear, Igglepiggle, Ben Elf & Bunny from his bed and then returned with them to mine.

I tucked them all up under the duvet together and squeezed in next to them.

My head was half on the pillow, half on Bear.

My bottom was half in the bed, half hanging over the edge of it.

My feet were cold.

‘I want a smoothie, Mummy’

Ssshhhhhhh now.

‘I.WANT.A.SMOOTHIE.’

With that he kicked off the covers and threw himself over to the other side of the bed.  Here we go…

‘Wake up, Mummy’ as his little fingers prodded my arm.

I inched further into the bed until the whole of my bottom finally made contact again with the mattress.

‘I want the dinosaur book, Mummy’

It’s in your room, Zachy.  Why don’t you go and read it in there?

I closed my eyes again.

The room was quiet for a second or two.  I could just about make out the sound of the Greek God(zilla) pretending to be asleep next to me.

‘Mummy’ he said ‘I want to do a poo’

The words I had waited to hear for two days.  The one thing he knew I wanted more than anything else.  The one thing he knew was sure to get me out of bed and follow him.   The one request I could not ignore.

I sighed.  Come on then.

I took the potty, positioned it in the middle of the hallway and signalled for Zachy to sit down.

‘I don’t want to do a poo, Mummy.  Read my dinosaur book’

How do you like to wake up the morning?

Oh, that is hilarious! They are brilliant, aren’t they? I am STILL trying to potty train my 3 year old son. I could just see him trying the same tactic.

Oh no, still? How long has it been? I am worried he has not pooped in 3 days now. Just holding it in – does not like to go at all – in pants, nappy or the potty.

Well, we haven’t been trying very hard for long. Started trying at 2 1/2 years as he didn’t show any of the signs for being ready until then. However at that same time I gave birth to his little sis and we moved to a new city! So, lots to take in. But the little one is 5 months old now and we have been in the house for 4 months, so time to get serious! A month or so ago we tried the leave the pants off so he knows he is peeing thing but it seemed to just tramatize him for a while. Think it is time to try again though. Has your little man gotten over his poop phobia? Congrats on your nominations!!

Nope, still has a poop phobia. Not sure what to do next. Wees are fine – he has no probs at all. Just does not like to poo – not sure if it is the sensation of it coming out or if he feels ashamed… everyone keeps telling me it will resolve itself though so keeping all fingers and toes crossed.

They know what lines to use, don’t they? Hope you managed to get a bit of rest after that!

Not really, then had to get ready for work BOOOO. But this weekend, I am leaving the Greek God(zilla) in charge and I am claiming back the lost hours 🙂

PROPER laugh out loud at this. They are such sneaky wee buggers aren’t they? Smart though…

T has tried this tactic too – although not so much to get me up in the morning as to delay bedtime. He’ll be all tucked in with the lights off, and just as I’m shutting the door I’ll hear ‘Mummy I need a wee on my potty…’

He never does though – it’s just stalling tactics.

Hang in there – I’ll see you on the other side of all this!

How do they get so smart so early?? Z does the bedtime stalling tactic too – bedtime routine seems to be taking about an hour these days! I miss those ‘down to bed at 7pm in a grobag and cot’ days.
Yes, see you on the other side indeed!

    Ooh I snorted with laughter!
I love than the ‘men’ pretend to sleep through. I just yell pile on and children throw themselves at him – amuses me everytime

Haha, thank for the tip! I like to play ‘let’s go and jump on daddy’s head’ when it is 10.30am and he is still not up 🙂
