Wakey Wakey

Wakey Wakey

When Croatia were knocked out of the Euro 2012 football tournament last week, I breathed a sigh of relief and awaited the return of the Greek God(zilla) to the fold.

He’d been in Poland for just over 2-weeks and although we’d found our own little groove at home, I’d still missed him and was looking forward to having him back.

When we’d spoken on the phone, he’d sounded a bit bored.

The hotel he was being put up in was located outside the main city and there was not much to occupy him outside of the matches.

This small town did not have any restaurants, just a few bars.  He’d be picked up by a colleague around lunchtime, taken to whatever game or training session he was covering that day, and then dropped back to the hotel again a few hours later.

Hence why every time I spoke to him, he was either in bed or drinking beer.

Back in the UK, I was excited for a break from the solo parenting gig.  I’d really enjoyed my time with Zachy but it’d be nice to go to the loo without a toddler bursting in and asking “What you doing, Mummy?” or to have 10-mins lie down on the sofa without cars being raced up and down my leg.

So when I got home from work last Wednesday, I was slightly surprised to find the Greek God(zilla) on the sofa with his feet up, the footie on in the background and a beer in hand.

A position he took up for the next couple of days until I went off to BritMums, when I assume he did get up to feed and water our son… however when BB called mid-afternoon he was just stirring from a mid-afternoon nap.  The Greek God(zilla) that is, Zachy was watching Ice Age 2 next to him on the bed.

Although all holidays very important business trips must eventually come to an end, and this week he returned to his usual desk job.

When Zachy woke up this morning, the first thing he said when noticing my empty bed was “Where’s Daddy?”

“Daddy’s gone to work” I replied

“Daddy’s waking up now” he said, matter of factly.

Let’s hope so.

You can’t get as much past these little ones – and hence you – as our men like to think, can you? Mine told me about how OH was playing Angry Birds in the kitchen while they were watching TV in the sitting room. Great, mate. Ta.

Glad he’s back again where he belongs, watching the footie at home! It’s tough doing childcare solo.

Glad to hear that cavalry has returned. But honestly, I’ve come home to find Younger Dad and Little A watching the grand prix!
