Skinny Jeans

Skinny Jeans

A few months back, I made a decision not to fad diet again and wrote about it here in a post titled No-No Dieting.

For the most part, I have stuck to this.  I try to be healthy and watch what I put into my mouth, but I do not beat myself up over a bottle glass of wine, a slice of pizza or YiaYia’s delicious lemon potatoes.   Or even all of the above in one sitting.

I am also probably even healthier now that I no longer eat wheat and have cut back (not cut out) dairy.  When it suits me though, obvs.

So, while I certainly do think I have a healthier attitude to food now, it means I still have not lost that last stone of baby weight (and some times of the month a mere 10lbs!).

Recently, I described how I live in leggings as few of my old jeans fit and I cannot bear to upsize (Fashion Daaaarhling).  This has led to a fair proportion of my wardrobe not being fully utilised – for example all of the gorgeous tops and jackets that I purchased to wear with jeans… when I had slimmed back into them.

I also have a pair of 29″ waist Levis, circa 2001, that I have kept in my bottom drawer for ten years even though I haven’t been able to pull them up past my knees for nine of those.

This week, I finally admitted defeat in the battle of the baby bulge (previously known simply as ‘battle of the bulge’) and I sized up.

I wish I felt as nonchalant about this as Julia Roberts did in Eat Pray Love.  In the scene where her character is discussing muffin tops with her friend (purlease, as if!) while stuffing her face with a pizza that is dripping in melted cheese, she shrugs and says “so we’ll just buy bigger jeans”.

There was no shrugging involved in my decision.  At all.  I found it to be both liberating and depressing at the same time.

“It happens to the best of us” sighed the Greek God(zilla) as I slipped miserably into the jeans.   Note slipped, not wrangled.

My bigger jeans do fit much better and I even have a bit of room to grow.  If I wanted to, I could even wear a snug fitting top with the jeans and there would be no evidence of a muffin top.  Not that I ever would.  Like EVER.  Let’s not even go there.

So now my old fat jeans have been relegated to the bottom drawer to become my new skinny jeans and the dream of one day  squeezing back into 29″ Levi’s belongs to another lifetime.

Pass the Dairy Milk someone?

Have you ever had to size up or has your weight stayed the same since you were a teenager?  Does it bother you what clothes size you are?  Please tell me I’m not alone in my despair/delight at having comfy jeans again?

Well I think you look stunning!!!!! And honey I’ve been upsizing my jeans ever since moving to the Middle East where everything is upsized! I’m waiting till I have another baby and I’m going to do what all the celebs do – have the tummy tuck along with the c-section!

I agree with the comments above, you look amazing in that photo and as someone who saw you one week ago I can confirm you look amazing in real life too!! I have come to realise that squeezing yourself into clothes that don’t fit makes you look a lot bigger than you really are and that wearing ones that fit or are even a bit big, make you look a skinnier. Fact! So, embrace the bigger jeans and to hell with it! xx

Hi Grenglish! Loved this post. I just moved up to a bigger size of jeans myself so I can totally empathise. I’ve been kidding myself for months that I could lose the baby fat but this time it just won’t come off and I have got so hooked on blogging that if I have a spare minute I would rather write than work out. You look fantastic in your photo!

You look incredible! I too bought bigger jeans this year, have 5 pairs of trousers that are just really uncomfortable, and 2 pairs of size 10 trousers that I had no business buying in the first place. All just waiting for me to finally sort out my waist….

Wow you are all too nice! I am so relieved that I am not the only one to be doing this.
I am still living in hope that one day I will squeeze back into the smaller size, not the really small size, but just the normal average ones! It is nice to be able to wear jeans again though and no-one can tell what size they are as it is not like I wear the label on the outside!

Thank you all again, you are lovely!

I am finding a desire for a higher waistband these days! I’m now all about the comfort !

I have been thinking I need bigger jeans of late and I’m hoping its due to our new tumble drier shrinking mine rather than the onset of the most feared thing in cyber space… bloggers butt!

haha I think I am definitely suffering from a case of bloggers butt too. My washer shrinks my clothes all the time (that’s my story anyway and I am sticking to it!)

Since Little A was born my body has totally changed. I have begrudgingly accepted new dangley boobies and absense of waist line. All clothes have got bigger. It takes a lot of getting used to. Everything changes after a sproglet.

My body will never be the same again! I am at the acceptance stage now after first going through denial and then anger.
