Ice Age 4

Ice Age 4

Sunday was our first day of sunshine for weeks, so clearly we took Zachy to the beach movies.

We planned to take him weeks ago, when I’d run out of ideas of how to entertain an almost 3-year old in the rain.

So, come rain or shine, the tickets were already booked and the film Ice Age 4 already promised.

I was not sure if Zachy was ready to start going to the cinema yet.

He can sit through a few episodes of Peppa Pig and the whole of Toy Story but gets a bit restless about 1 hour in and asks questions… a lot of questions.

And, he states everything he sees… Diego is running now Mummy; Oh look the ice is melting Mummy; a squirrel Mummy; that man is picking his nose Mummy!

But, he had been pointing out the film poster to me on the side of buses for weeks, and he really enjoyed the first 3 films, so we thought we would give it a go.

We also hoped it would mark the start of a lifelong love for the cinema and not a lifetime ban.

We arranged to meet the A-Team* at the cinema.

Here is Zachy and his cousin Archie just before the film.

Yes, we let them have popcorn and pick ‘n’ mix at 10.45 in the morning… #badparents

Here they are watching the trailers.

The boys were very well-behaved during the film.  Archie had to leave for a brief while as he got a bit scared when the music came on because it was SO LOUD.  Zachy got a bit restless about 1-hour in and decided he wanted to climb over the seats in front, but he eventually settled back down when I whispered the 3 magic words “No More Popcorn”.

In Ice Age 4, Manny, Diego, and Sid embark upon another adventure after their continent is set adrift. Using an iceberg as a ship, they encounter sea creatures and battle pirates as they explore a new world.

It wasn’t my favourite instalment of the series, I have to say.  It still had it’s funny moments but the second film, Meltdown, is still the best of the bunch in my opinion.

Although, not being the target audience that does not count for much.

What did you think of the film?  we asked Zachy after the credits had rolled.

I want to see Ice Age 5 now!

How old were your kids when you first took them to the cinema? Did they enjoy it or want to sit on your lap during the scary bits?

*we call my sister’s family the A-Team on account of their names all beginning with the letter A, not because they are on the run for a “crime they didn’t commit”

We took Sadie to her first movie just before she turned 2 – HUGE MISTAKE! She lasted 15 minutes before wandering down the stairs of the cinema and falling and screaming – we made a hasty exit! We then waiting until she was about 2 1/2 close to 3 when we took her back and she was grand – have been going ever since. She does ask A LOT of questions during the movie but she’s got it down to a loud whisper! I also threaten “no more popcorn” on a regular basis! I’m not a huge fan at all of kids movies but since Sadie i’ve seen them all. Ice Age 4 was ok, Sadie loved it, but I agree 2 was the best. Sadie is OBSESSED with scrap the squirrel x
