The Man Cave

The Man Cave

One of the things that appealed most to the Greek God(zilla) when buying this house, was the teeny tiny fourth bedroom.

A room that is not really big enough to accommodate a guest bed, but could possibly be transformed into an office, a nursery, or a shoes & accessories closet for me.

The Greek God(zilla) on the other hand, visualised the room with rows of vinyl adorning its walls, and books about cricket and football filling the shelves.

A room where he could retreat and listen to his 12″ Midnight Oil LPs and play air guitar.

It would also be a great place to house his Caddyshack film poster and various sporting paraphernalia, I thought conspiratorially to myself.

We moved in, put all his boys toys in there and the Man Cave was born.

Every opportunity he gets, the Greek God(zilla) can be found hiding away up there, listening to records and flicking through Cricketer magazine.

His vinyl collection includes Pink Floyd, Fleetwood Mac and The Police, while Battlestar Galactica DVDs prop up all the books that did not make the cut for the bookcases on public display in the lounge.

He has a map of the World blue-tacked to one wall and an El Greco poster on another.

He loves that little room more than any other in the house.

It is a little bit stinky if I am honest.

I am not sure if that is because he has been spritzing a 30-year old bottle of Old Spice around in a nostalgic haze; or if the holey white fisherman’s jumper he still dons from his Uni days, has actually not seen the inside of a washing machine since then either.

Maybe it is simply the irresistable scent of Eau de Man and just needs the window opening ajar.

The Man Cave also comes with an extension.  It is called The Loft.  This is where every CD, DVD, VHS, tape cassette and stray piece of cable lead ever owned lives.

Occassionally, when the Greek God(zilla) goes missing and cannot be found in his Man Cave or in the garden shed, I will find his legs dangling out of the hole in the ceiling that also serves as the gateway to our loft.

It is a bit stinky up there too.

The problem is that Zachy also seems to quite like hanging out in the Man Cave with his Dad.  I found him dancing away in there to Roxy Music last week.

Then yesterday he asked me if we could go out and play cricket, right before he trumped and asked me if I could smell it.

He is most definitely his father’s son.

I am sure you would find it pretty boring. Unless he keeps a gin & crisps stash in there too 🙂

Oh I so know this! When we move home, Younger Dad is finally going to get a little space he can have his office in! And it will smell. Love that you have your best books on display in the living room! :o).

Great post, I can just imagine him festering away in his man cave, hee hee – I too have managed to filter out much of RD’s stuff that I wouldn’t want on display in our home. Sadly for him though, he doesn’t have a man cave, so that stuff is either in the loft out of sight or taken to the charity shop! xx
