I Do Not Have Time To Blog Today

I do not have time to blog today.

I have a stolen a quick 5-minutes now while the Greek God(zilla) has popped out to buy more icing for the Griwi’s birthday cake.

Oh the pressure!  My darling twin godsons turned two this week and are having a party this afternoon at the new home they only moved into last week after MONTHS of estate agent hell.

I have been tasked with baking the birthday cake.  OK, I might have offered… but anyway, the birthday cake is the centrepiece of any birthday party and appears in all the photos as parents, godparents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and friends all snap proudly away as the birthday boys blow out their candles.

The Greek God(zilla) has already taken a look at my progress so far and asked “What is it supposed to be?”

I should really have started the preparation a bit earlier than on Friday night but it has been a long week, starting with a visit from our financial advisor on Monday who advised us in order to save more money we really need to stop spending it.

Or, I do anyway.

Taking all his advice on board (kind of), I shopped for all the cake ingredients after work on Tuesday and I suppose I could have blogged later that night but watched I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here and ordered stuff off the internet instead.

On Wednesday night I went out for a gorgeous dinner with my old friends Susy & Kate and drank too much wine.  I love them both so very much, but as our busy lives make it difficult to get together more than once or twice a year, we can tend to get a tad over excited.  It was a loud, indiscreet and absolutely side-splitting hilarious night out, which left me feeling all warm and fuzzy inside.  Although, it meant I did not get anywhere near a laptop that night or even give a second thought to my cake sponge.

I had a huge work party on Thursday that I have been organising for 10-weeks, so I spent all day running from the office to the venue, calling up various suppliers and checking they were still intending to deliver tables/microphones/red velvet cupcakes and then asking in a very calm voice… THEN WHERE ARE THEY???

So Friday night really was the first time I could start thinking about the cake.  I made the sponge, added lime green food colouring to the icing and started liberally smearing it all over the 3 shapes I had cut out to create the body of a dinosaur.

Then I realised I did not have enough icing so the Greek God(zilla) has popped to the supermarket this morning so I can make up another batch and finish smearing it all over the sponge.

So, that is why I do not have time to blog today.

Its nice to know that my brothers cake would have looked so nice! Wish I could have been there to wish them a happy birthday, but if you would do that for me it would be much appreciated.
Hopefully my brothers are happy and healthy? I hope they are anyway.

Hi Sophie! It is very nice to ‘virtually’ meet you 🙂
The cake passed the test! Was not the prettiest looking dinosaur ever seen, but it tasted good.
The boys are doing great and I will make sure to give them an extra squeeze from you when I see them next.
      x

Thanks, my other brother had a dinosaur cake once, I helped to make it and it wasn’t the easiest thing to do so congratulations. Haha, hope to meet you all sometime soon.
