Downton Downtime

Downton Downtime

A few weeks ago the Greek God(zilla) was away on a work trip for a few days.

Obviously I missed him terribly and all that, but on the bright side these little breaks do provide me an excellent opportunity to watch all of my favourite TV shows in peace.

Those being The Good Wife, Downton Abbey, True Blood, Grey’s Anatomy, Gossip Girl, The Vampire Diaries (don’t judge!), Masterchef, Smash, Made in Chelsea (guilty pleasure), Eastenders, The Newsroom, Location Location Location, Sherlock, Dallas, The Apprentice and sometimes (always) The X-Factor.

Now, all of these bar Eastenders, Masterchef, Dallas and Sherlock are what the Greek God(zilla) would call trash TV and I have to series link them and watch them in ‘my own time’, which as we all know is NEVER.

On those rare occassions when I find myself with an hour or so to sit in front of the TV, alone, and am thus not required to feign interest in the golf/cricket/Peppa Pig, I prefer to flick over to the planner and watch one of ‘my’ shows.

But this summer has been a bit thin on the ground in terms of potential recordings and our planner has been looking a bit neglected of late.

At times, I have found myself tuning in to watch Styled to Rock, which is not very good at all but I am happy to have it on in the background while I shop online  tweet read gossip news websites; and a fab new find on E4 called Revenge (BRILLIANT!)

So, with the Greek God(zilla) away and the new series of Downton about to start, I prepared myself for a long awaited night of unadulterated tv viewing.

After putting Zachy to bed, I excitedly slipped into a leggings & sweat top combo, whipped off my bra and tied my hair up on top of my head.  I pulled an old pair of bed socks onto my feet and cranked the heating up… yes, in September.

Tucked up under a fleecy blanket on the sofa with a hot cup of tea, or maybe it was a glass of wine I can’t quite remember, I pressed play.

I knew within the first 5 minutes of watching the opening episode that something was amiss.

Lady Mary was planning her wedding to Cousin Matthew… but hold on a minute, I was sure that the last season had ended with him declaring dramatically that they could never be together because he had sworn eternal faithfulness to his late fiance, even though his heart had really only ever belonged to Mary.

The Greek God(zilla) had given me the entire series 1&2 boxset for Mother’s Day and I was sure I had watched every single episode… so I googled.

Two words glared back at me in the search results: CHRISTMAS SPECIAL.

I had missed the Christmas special, probably because it had aired before I was the lucky recipient of the dvds, and certainly before I had known how much joy it would bring me in the months to come.

So, I was going to have to buy the fecking Christmas special before I could even get started on the new series.

Most annoying.

It took an age to download on the laptop and I ended up falling asleep to Styled to Rock while it completed.

No spoilers please, I am still not fully up to date.

There is no moral to this story.

Except maybe to watch more television.

Or less.

And it is never too early to put the heating on.

Or drink wine.

Oh dear! Can’t imagine how frustrated you felt – but more importantly what do you think to the new season of True Blood – I’ve already seen it all (husband, techy geek, downloaded it) and I have to say the ending is a shocker. I’m so over Bill – it’s Eric all the way! :o). X

I always love it when an email pops in my in box with your most recent blog post! I was waiting for playgroup to start when this one came through and I really wanted to say thanks for the read while I was waiting (I know I should have been watching my kids) but didn’t know how to comment on my iPhone so two days later and I’ve finally got round to leaving a comment. BTW season 2 of Revenge has started over here and we are taping it. The first season was awesome although as so often happens with these American series they have to drag it on for a second season when all we really want are the answers! Anyway sorry this comment turned into an essay – it wasn’t supposed to!

I am so pleased to hear there is a season 2 of Revenge. I didn’t expect it to be so good when I started watching but even the Greek God(zilla) will sit down and watch it with me.
I love it when your posts pop in my inbox too but also do not know how to comment on phone!

OMG Catch up immediatly – me and my friends have a Sunday standing date during Downton season and an annual Downton Dinner Party. Even my dad is glued (under no duress whatsoever, the decree absolute having come through this week)and texts me throughout the show – usually from the point of view of Carson. Actually thinking about it, thats a bit wierd isn’t it!

The dinner party is mostly and excuse to roll out the fish knives and dessert forks that came with my expensive canteen of cutlery I splashed out on a couple of years ago!

I want to have a Downton dinner party! What a fabulous idea. We do not have the posh cutlery but can certainly put on an accent and a frock!

Is there an echo in here?! Sorry about the repetition – clearly got a bit confused with cut and copy!!
