Yiayia Vasso’s recipes

A lot of the stories on this blog revolve around food and in particular, Yiayia’s food.

As well as all the traditional Greek favourites such as tzatziki, spanakopita, cheese pie, kleftiko and dolmades, there are firm family favourites such as pasticio, yemista, kritharaki and moussaka.

Yiayia has been creating these delicious recipes to feed her family for over 40 years and has decided that now is the time to pass them on.

So, together with the Greek God(zilla)’s sister, Eva, we have taken on the enormous task of compiling all of Yiayia’s recipes into book format.

Over the next few months, we will be listening, reading, translating, cooking, writing, rewriting, photographing and tasting every single recipe to share with you all.

brilliant! It’s really fun writing it although quite hard because she does not use proper measurements!

My Giagia’s (my Greeklish speling!) recipies are all full of notes referring to glass sizes! So I have found myself pouring out a glass full of sugar onto the scales and rounding up to other ‘regular’ (= Victoria sponge cake) recipies to make some ‘sense’ of it. Of course the question is what size of glass…? Tumbler, Greek style with the ridges that we use for wine or larger water version?!!
But the best thing about these recipies is how I think of her writing these notes and feel closer to her when I’m reading through them, somehow I’m sure the warm feelings add an extra special flavour to the dishes…
Can’t wait for the book and hope to see some of your Giagia’s notes included!!

Hello, I have only just ‘discovered’ this site!
Please, can you tell me if “Yiayia’s Recipes” has been completed/published/any recipes available on this site?

    Many thanks
