The MAD Blog Awards

I have been lucky enough to attend the MAD Blog Awards as a finalist for 2-years now, which both amazes and humbles me in equal measure.  This year, the ceremony was held at the Royal Garden Hotel in Kensington and was even more glitzy and glamorous than before. I was keeping esteemed company with some of my favourite bloggers on the night, but it was the fantastic Fiona from Combe Mill who walked away with the prize in my category, Best Family Fun Blog.  Fiona writes a brilliant blog about life as a Farmer’s wife with their 6 children and she gave the most beautiful and moving speech when she went up to the stage to collect her award. I had not prepared any words to say on the night in the event my name was called; so strong was my belief that there would be no need to use them.  If only I could be as thrifty when it came to shopping online. Then I thought how flippant that must sound to all the people …

A MAD Family Day Out at Legoland Windsor

One of the perks of being a MAD Blog Awards finalist this year, was being invited to a family day out at Legoland Windsor. Legoland is dedicated to children aged 3-12, so at almost 4 years-old, Zachy is a good age for his first theme park experience. We left early in the morning and even with the Greek God(zilla) driving, it only took us an hour by car from South London. Obviously, I was still up at 6am with an excited little boy who just wanted to ‘GO NOW, MUMMY!’ When we arrived, we made our way over to the resort hotel.   All the rooms are themed and totally geared towards kids, but a bit too expensive for us to justify for the sake of an extra hour in bed. Especially when that extra hour would still be spent with a 3-year old wedged between us shouting ‘GO NOW, MUMMY!’ So drive we did. After registering, we were given a special lanyard to gain access into the park and a golden wristband each, which meant …

Always the Bridesmaid

Of course, I always knew that I wouldn’t really win the MAD Blog Award for Best Family Fun.  Just as I had also known that I wouldn’t win the Brilliance in Blogging award that I was up for earlier this year. But, I was chuffed to bits to even be nominated, let alone make to the finals of both.  I felt incredibly proud to see my blog up there in lights, holding its own… and some! ‘I’m just here for the wine!’ I guffawed as I clinked glasses with everyone. Although, that didn’t stop me from holding my breath for a short moment, just as they introduced the finalists. For that split second before the winner was announced, I thought to myself  what if it IS me…? But, it wasn’t.  The award went to the brilliant Multiple Mummy blog, definitely the most deserving winner and I was genuinely thrilled to bits for Kerry and her family. Leaving me to return to the incredibly important task of dividing the contents of a red wine bottle between mine and Anya’s (Older …

Cheater

I knew you were the one for me after our very first meeting. The conversation flowed easily, you were not too demanding of my time and you made me feel better about myself. For 6-years, you have made me happy. I still feel excited when I know I am going to see you and you have not once disappointed, or let me down. You have lived up to my every expectation, humoured almost every whim and desire… and talked me out of making some really big mistakes. I trust you. So, I never thought in a million years that I would cheat on you. I do not know why I did it. It was not the same. As someone else ran their fingers through my hair, I tried to put you out of my mind. It did not mean anything. I knew what I was doing was wrong, but I could not help myself. I needed you and you were not there. It was selfish of me, I was thinking only of myself. It is …

I am an Awards Finalist – TWICE!!

I found out earlier this week that this little blog has reached the FINALS (!!!) of the BritMums Brilliance in Blogging Awards in the Fresh Voices category. WOW WOW WOW! I have only been blogging for just over a year, so to have come this far and to see Grenglish holding its own up there beside blogs that I admire greatly, makes me feel so very proud.  The talent in my category is phenomenal and to stand beside every single one of my fellow finalists is an incredible honour. Do check them out here if you get a chance. After floating around on a cloud for most of Tuesday, I insisted to the Greek God(zilla) that we celebrate (code for midweek wine) so he cracked open one of the nice bottles of red (the ones he hides under the stairs so I don’t accidentally pull a 20-year old Barolo off the rack again to offer to our neighbours – as nice as they are). And that, I thought, would be that. I floated around on a hangover cloud for …
