Prosecco Moment

Prosecco Moment

The Greek God(zilla) was decorating last weekend.  If you have read The Greek God(zilla)’s Guide to DIY then you will already be familiar with his unique ‘skills’ and understand why I may have been feeling a tad nervous.

However, as the painting of the walls in our spare bedroom would require the Caddyshack poster to come down, it all came down to a choice of two evils in the end.

I will really miss that Caddyshack poster (I really won’t).

The most time-consuming part of the decorating was choosing the colour palette.  The Greek God(zilla) prefers warm oranges and yellows, whereas I prefer cool blues and greys.

He’d say red, I’d say French grey. I’d say white, he’d say magnolia.  MAGNOLIA!

Negotiations took a couple of days but we finally settled on Dutch White, or as I like to (quietly) call it, ice-cold blue.

I was surprised pleased to see how much effort he put in to properly prepare the room.  Furniture was moved, walls were washed, and dust sheets were applied.

Then the parcel tape came out and I froze.

The Greek God(zilla) can do weird and wonderful things with a roll of tape…

More weird than wonderful in most cases.

However, I started to relax when he correctly used the tape to cover the skirting board so that the Dutch White didn’t drip all over the gloss.  I have seen my Dad, who knows EVERYTHING about decorating, use the same technique.

He then started to paint.  I did not see him for days, such was his dedication.  Occasionally, I would hear him singing along to Absolute 80’s on the radio, but mostly I enjoyed the quiet time and the novelty of having sole custody of the remote control.

Finally, he called to me from the top of the stairs – it was time to reveal his work.

I carefully examined every wall, corner and edge.  I stood still in the room for a few minutes just to take it all in.

It was a thing of real beauty.  Not one spot missed, nor drips to wipe and he had even managed to stay within the lines.

Usually, this would be the time when I’d suggest cracking open a bottle of wine to toast to the good health of the spare room.  But, as much as I love red wine, in a big round stemmed glass, I do not love the hangover or the ruby stained lips that follow it.

More recently, my drink of choice has been Prosecco.  I find it much lighter to drink and it is a lot easier on my body the next day.

However, I would not open a bottle of Prosecco at home unless we had friends over, or there was some kind of occasion…  like, newly decorated dutch white walls!  I admit, I very rarely have to dig deep to find a Prosecco moment.

Last week, Waitrose very kindly sent over a case of Prosecco from their Italian wines collection for us to try.  The selection we received included Italia Collezione Prosecco Brut, Valdo Oro Puro Prosecco Superiore, Villa Vincento Prosecco NV and San Leo Prosecco Brut, but it was the cork on the Waitrose own Prosecco we popped to officially ‘open’ the room.

The fizz is magnolia in colour too.  Who says I can’t compromise…

Awesome on two accounts. 1. Can I borrow Greek God (zilla) as plan on getting the lounge reformatted at some point next year. 2.i am having a real prosecco moment too and enjoying not bring do heady the next day. I also drink less of it because of the bubbles I think.

I am very impressed about the use of parcel tape here, although I think the Greek God(zilla) might have been talking to Franglais Daddy about using it for DIY as our fridge looks remarkably like yours…. As for Prosecco, it’s Friday, late afternoon, and I’m trying to think of a good reason to crack some open here. Any ideas? xx

Oooh my other half’s downstairs decorating the front room right now. Perhaps I should pop out for some prosecco so we can follow in your footsteps and toast his work! (any excuse….not sure if he’s even going to get it done tonight 🙂
