An Early Riser

An Early Riser

I have been pushed out of my own bed.

Well, not pushed exactly – there was no actual physical force used.

Although, as soon as a little person crawls into the bed beside you, you know your day has already begun.

So here I am, drinking tea and blogging at the kitchen table while the Greek God(zilla) gets his full 8-hours on upstairs and Zachy snoozes happily next to him on my side of the bed.

It would actually be quite sweet if I wasn’t so tired.

I’ve been up and down all night.  The first time was to answer the call for water.  The second was because he was cold.

Then the Greek God(zilla) returned home from dinner with a friend and wanted to chat.

Then he was back and forth to the bathroom, switching lights on and off, flushing the loo and re-arranging the bed pillows.

Just as I finally think I drifted back off to sleep, I heard Zachy whimpering in his bedroom and then felt the Greek God(zilla)’s arm on mine, gently shaking me awake to go in and check on our son in the room next door.

Seriously?!

I was too tired to do anything other than take him (& Bear) back to our bed and pop them in the middle of us, safe and warm.

Except he is a bit of a fidget.

Limbs were being flung everywhere, arms landed on my face and legs bounced off my chest.

The duvet cover was kicked off in protest as he tossed and turned and tried to make himself comfortable.

I snuggled in closer, trying to stay warm.

‘Stop it you’re squashing me’

So I inched towards the edge a bit more to make room and balanced half on/half off the bed until finally in slow motion, I toppled off.

All the while, the Greek God(zilla) slept on blissfully unaware.

So I have come downstairs and left them to it.

It is quite nice to drink a cup of tea and read my emails in peace.  Even if it does still feel like the middle of the night.

I can hear stirrings upstairs now.  The Greek God(zilla) is trying to cuddle Zachy but he is resisting.

They will both be up soon and there will be drinks to make, people to dress and teeth to clean.

Requests for the loo, orange juice and TV are already starting to be made.

But right now, I am letting the Greek God(zilla) deal with it, pretending not to hear and blogging on blissfully unaware 😉

Bet you’re feeling really tired! Why do men do this? Sleep through anything! Isn’t it annoying? While us mums have been programmed to wake up to the sound of still air. I am such a light sleeper now too! X.

Zachy could sneeze and I would hear him! Such a light sleeper now, what I wouldn’t give for a decent 10 hours.

Poor you! I am a total b*tch when I have a night of disturbed sleep. Although since we had no 4, my husband has been getting up with the kids in a morning. I pointed out that I have them constantly from 7 am until 9 pm so he has to take one for the team and deal with them for an hour or so before I get up! Perhaps you can ‘persuade’ your husband to get up early once in a while (?) But I totally feel your pain, it just gets harder as we get older to deal with no sleep doesn’t it?

I could persuade him to get up early I guess but he will grump about it all day long. I have worked out a compromise whereby he gets to sleep in the morning and I get to disappear off for an afternoon doze around 3pm 🙂

My sympathies, change the names and this could be a post about our household! x

This had me nodding in recognition and laughing. My bed is not my own, ever lately! When will these kids grow up and sleep solo. They’re half Greek (as are yours) so I’m thinking 31/35 at a push? x

It’s amazing how the husband can be so oblivious to the goings on in the house in the middle of the night/early morning, sometimes David will say to me “well that was good, nobody woke in the night” and I’ll be like, err, excuse me, I was up 3 times!!! I find it especially surprising given that he used to hear a pin drop in our pre children days if I came home after a few too many glasses of vino and “crept” through the house…! Hope you caught up on some sleep over the weekend xx

Oh yes, he will hear me come home from a drink with a friend alright and tell me he couldn’t sleep all night because of it! But, Z waking up asking for a wee or tissue or drink or toy… no way.
