A New Obsession

A New Obsession

Regular readers of this blog will remember that my 3-year old has a bit of an obsession with all things Toy Story.

Over the past few months, he has built up quite the collection of characters from the film.

He has a small Woody and a small Buzz that we travel with.  For his birthday last year, we gave him a talking Buzz Lightyear figure with wings that bumped Ben Elf and Peppa Pig from the foot of his bed.

The A-Team gave him a Buzz costume and a Buzz birthday cake and a Toy Story camera!

In his letter to Father Christmas, he asked for a Toy Story  duvet and pillow.

He has seen all the films and would happily watch them back to back if we would let him.

On Christmas morning, he was delighted to open all his Buzz themed presents.

As well as the new bed linen set, he received a chair for his room, stickers for his wall and various colouring in books.

Auntie BB gave him a big talking Woody and a Zurg figure and they did not leave his side all day.

He was one very happy boy on Christmas morning.

On Boxing Day, I saw that another Disney/Pixar film, Cars, was on the TV so recorded it onto the planner in the hope that one day I’d be able to persuade him away from the Toy Story  trilogy.

There was resistance, of course.  He is only 3 after all and is very particular about what he likes and does not like.

‘I.DO.NOT.WANT.TO.WATCH.CARS.I.ONLY.WANT.TO.WATCH.TOY.STORY! NOW.’

I think we told him that Cars was the only thing on and it was that or nothing.

It worked.  He settled in next to the Greek God(zilla) and our afternoon movie was something that none of us had watched before, let alone seen 17 times.

As the credits rolled, I noticed him wander over to his toy car box and pull out a selection of the cars from the film.  Someone must have bought him the set for his birthday and not having seen the film before, we had not linked them to it.

For the rest of the afternoon, he was vroom vrooming Lightening McQueen all over the house and even included him in a battle between Buzz Lightyear and Zurg.

That night, Lightening McQueen joined Buzz, Woody and Zurg at the foot of his bed.

‘Do you like your new Toy Story bed’ I asked as I tucked him in under his new duvet cover and prepared his bedtime stories.

Can I have a Lightening McQueen bed instead, Mummy?

That is hilariously the exact opposite of my 3 yr old, Zeke. He has a lightening mcqueen bed, bedroom stickers, cars, pj’s, Cars birthday cake and now all he talks about is Woody the Cowboy and runs around the house saying, “To infinity and beyond,” ha! If there wasn’t an ocean between us I would suggest us trading room decor!

That made me laugh – it’s so funny how particular they are about toys and stuff – but WOW that is quite a toy story obsession – bless him. X.

Hiya. Happy New Year. We love Cars in this house and had a big toss up today between Toy Story and Cars but ended up with Shrek. Fickle things aren’t they, the little things. Imagine what girls are like! Aaagh..

It is funny how they become fixated on one thing, cute though!
