A Bloody Brilliant Weekend

A Bloody Brilliant Weekend

I am really not very high maintenance at all when it comes to having the perfect weekend.

Imagine lots of nice food, lots of nice wine, lots of nice friends and that is pretty much really all that is required.

If I can also escape it without having to watch Toy Story or Cars more than once, then that is definitely an added bonus.

This weekend, we were lucky enough to be invited over to friend’s houses on both the Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Friends who were going to feed us, pour us alcoholic drinks and provide entertainment for the children.

It was practically a spa weekend.

I was the designated driver on Saturday afternoon.  I cannot remember how this was decided, although I think it was based on more of an assumption than a coin toss.

When we arrived we were shown through to the kitchen and offered a glass of Prosecco.

‘Ermmmm, you did not say anything about Prosecco’ I whispered to the Greek God(zilla) as he handed me the car keys.

The kids were given free reign of the lounge and a huge selection of toys, including all of the main characters of Toy Story and Cars set out for them to play with.  Zachy’s eyes lit up like it was Christmas morning all over again.

The Prosecco continued to flow for the Greek God(zilla) all afternoon.  I got my kicks from the food… oh my gosh, the food!

For the adults there were rare roast beef baguettes, chicken sandwiches, duck ciabattas and BLTs.  Homemade sausage rolls came straight out of the oven and were delivered directly from the local bakery to the front door.

The kids were treated to pizza and a DVD.  Threenager heaven.  We went to check on Zachy every few minutes or so, but he was happily racing Chick Hicks and Lightening McQueen around the floor, leaving us to chat between mouthfuls. It was bloody brilliant!

All good things must come to an end though and eventually it was time to go.

I knew as soon as we arrived that it was going to be a problem getting him to leave.

There was so much to entertain him and so much to distract his attention.  It took 20 minutes to get him to even put his shoes on!  Then he needed a wee.  Then he needed another drink.  Every delaying tactic in the book was used.

He was taking soooooo long that eventually Zachy and I decided that we would just wait in the car for the Greek God(zilla) to finish up and say his goodbyes.

Finally, he strolled out of the house holding a rare roast beef sandwich in one hand and a plastic cup full of Prosecco in the other.

Even Zachy did an eye roll…

There was no debate over who would drive us the following day.  We had been invited to lunch by our local friends so even though there had been a snow storm overnight, we could still manage to walk down the hill to their house in 20 mins or so.

Took some pics along the way…

Now, there were a few more treats in store for all of us that afternoon.

For Zachy, there was the gift of Cars

The ENTIRE collection (thank you Barney)

For the Greek God(zilla), there was the gift of building a proper snowman… (not a lollypop head in sight)

For me there was Vic’s yummy apple crumble (wish I had taken a pic but I ate it too quickly… whoops)

A bloody brilliant weekend!

What a great weekend – and a much better looking snowman – I love this thread of Toy Stories and Cars, it really makes me laugh! It’s great when they can entertain themselves….

That is my perfect weekend! Thankfully we have a couple of local friends who do exactly the same – we leave the car and one of us runs to get it in the morning 😉

Missed this before – that sounds fab. You look smashing. I love that – on it taking twenty mins for hubby to get his shoes on and Zac’s eye roll! LOL. I miss week ends like that. Glad you can indulge X
