Uncle Jack Funnneeee

Uncle Jack Funnneeee

Archie Bear said so, so it must be true.

We invited my brother Jack and the A-team (my sister Angie, Adrian and 2-year-old Archie Bear) to stay with us at the weekend.  Angie had been working in Manchester for a couple of months so we hadn’t been able to get together for a while and had missed celebrating our boys’ 2nd birthdays.  Jack is studying marine biology at Plymouth University and had no money plans this weekend.

So, we decided to throw the boys a little afternoon tea party and asked my parents and brother, Sam, if they wanted to come along too.

Putting on a spread for 10 people is quite time-consuming as it turns out!  Angie and I made a quick supermarket dash in the morning to pick up a few (ahem) supplies and were then up to our elbows in bread, cheese, ham, pizza, olives, sausages, nuts, crisps, pasta, rice, chicken, potatoes, dips, sweets and cake for the rest of the afternoon.  Not that we intended to do any cooking but all that unwrapping and reheating and decanting takes a while.

Luckily, Uncle Jack was on hand to supervise the boys’ endless scooter and car rides up and down the hallway while we checked that the Sauvignon blanc was cold enough.

Uncle Jack even let Zachy take turns to push him on the car, scooping Archie Bear up along the way.  Meanwhile Angie and I loaded/unloaded/reloaded the dishwasher and topped up our glasses… still not quite cold enough.

Note to self: wine back in the fridge and retest again in 20 minutes.

Uncle Jack ensured the kids were nice ‘n knackered by bedtime so we could then park ourselves in front of the X-Factor and comment on how bad ALL of the performances for rock SONG week were (read between the lines Tulisa).  The Greek God(zilla) even took a break from the Sjoelen tournament taking place in the kitchen to add his in-depth analysis of Bullygate.

“They’re all morons, love”

He then loudly declared that he was no longer supporting Tulisa’s groups and was switching alliances to Sophie Habibis instead.  Coincidentally, also Greek.  For someone who claims to NEVER watch the show, he sure seems to find a lot of time to google the contestants and mentors…

It was a late night for us, 11pm, but this did not stop the boys from waking us up at 7am insisting on being fed.  I am glad someone is still getting 12 hours sleep a night in this house, even if it is not me.

With the rugby dominating the morning schedule for the Greek God(zilla) and Adrian, the rest of us went for a walk to Dulwich Park.  Uncle Jack was brilliant at entertaining the boys again, while Angie and I were silent behind our shades, feeling every small sip of wine consumed the night before with each small step.  Archie Bear in particular, found Jack to be quite hilarious.  Everything Jack said to Archie Bear was returned with “Uncle Jack funneeee”.

Uncle Jack, 20,  says things to me like: “I’ve never really had a hangover”.  Hilarious.

Back home, Adrian and the Greek God(zilla) were finishing off the last of the Doom Bar and the fridge was full of uneaten deli foods and very very cold wine.

“Food parcel?” I asked Jack as he was getting ready to head back to Plymouth.

A small price to pay for 24-hours of babysitting.

What did you get up to this weekend?

Is Uncle Jack available for hire?! sounds like an idyllic weekend with family 🙂 and yes, you’re so right, rock week on X Factor was properly rubbish! (although I did quite enjoy Jonny Robinson’s performance!) x

X-factor is becoming a joke now – how is that Frankie bloke still in it and gorgeous Sophie has gone?! Do you think it might be because his family is friends with Jason Orange… couldn’t possibly be could it…?

It was a great weekend I have to say! I have to admit I enjoy all the playing and fun stuff but when it comes down to the nitty gritty (e.g. nappies and saying the word “no”) I probably fall short!

Also, there’s a video floating around facebook showing the STATE I was in last night, I got off with a slight headache this morning. Gotta love being 20 😀
