Hanging up my Gym shoes

Hanging up my Gym shoes

When I first joined my local gym, I went religiously 3 times a week for all of about 3-weeks.

Then, as the nights grew colder and darker, I was making one regular weekend visit.

Now, I hardly show my face at all.

Since Christmas, I have spent £138 to use the cross trainer for 20mins and walk on an incline for a further 30mins.

‘You can walk up and down the stairs for free’ said the Greek God(zilla) bravely.

I hate it when he is right.

Luckily it does not happen often.

However, there was no getting away from the fact on this particular occassion, as the proof was there on my bank statement, that I have been basically donating £46 a month to the gym for about 10-months.

When I called them earlier today to enquire how I might go about cancelling my membership, I imagined they might try to talk me out of it, beg me to stay, tell me what a valued donator member I was.

Instead only this: ‘you’ve got to put it in an email, darlin’

I will miss being a gym member in a funny sort of way.  When I finally hand over my membership card (or most likely just pop it back in the post), I will no longer be able to kid myself that I had become one of those people who can juggle a family, a full-time job, a blog and walk on an incline run on a treadmill for 30-mins a day.  I will have to finally admit to myself that I will never be super fit or, sob, thin.

But I just can’t justify the expense for something I am not using.  At all.

Maybe I can claim back Gift Aid?

I did similar last year after I had spent about £50 on a yoga class! I’m currently trying to convince myself that running up the stairs (bonus workout for carrying laundry and/or toddler) and online yoga classes will work instead. It’s clearly a very long process.

I am thinking a walk round the park at lunchtime might be a more pleasurable experience than running up and down the stairs carrying a toddler or laundry! The things we do 😉

I don’t know how anyone manages to fit in regular gym trips when you have a child and a full time job – I know what I’d rather be doing with any spare time I have… drinking wine, eating pizza/chocolate, sitting on the sofa, blogging…. wow that makes me sound like a right slob! x

I’m with you there, RM. Slob out I say! That is pretty much how I spend my spare time… the gym just kept getting bumped down the list!
