The Greek God(zilla) has been in Poland for a week now.
The first couple of days were tough because I missed him quite a lot so I was moping about while keeping myself busy with stuff around the house.
Then I really started to enjoy the house being that little bit tidier. I liked not having to step over various bags in the hallway containing golf clubs or cricket bats . It was great to collect shoes up from all over the house, return them to their proper place in the wardrobe, and let them stay there.
I started to clear my tv planner and watched the season finales of Grey’s Anatomy, The Good Wife, Gossip Girl and House in peace. I did the ironing while watching E4, a channel last visited before my cohabiting days.
The dishwasher has been that little bit quieter and the laundry… well, nothing much has changed about the mountain of laundry, other than it has all been folded and put away and not left in a pile on top of the ironing board should the desire to un-crease it ever take over me.
We have got into a morning routine, an afternoon routine and a bedtime routine. Instead of opening a bottle of wine when Zachy goes to bed, I have been putting the kettle on and taking the laptop up to bed where I have been shamelessly watching back to back episodes of Made in Chelsea on 4oD.
Weekends, I thought would be harder. Usually, even if we have nothing planned, we still always make it to the playground together at least once over the weekend or for a scoot round the park and an ice-cream.
Fortunately, my aunt and uncle were throwing a 40th wedding anniversary barbecue at their local cricket club on Saturday and had organised face painting and bouncy castles to entertain the kids.
Zachy had a great time with his two best mates, Archie Bear…
The drive was straightforward with no wrong turns, added journey time or throwing of Sat Navs around the car. It is pretty amazing what distance you can cover in good time by just plugging those things in, listening to the instructions and then actually following the instructions. Who knew?!
I must remember to mention it to the Greek God(zilla) next time we embark on a long trip…
What do you get up to when you are home alone?
