The First Date

The First Date

It was only matter of time before it happened.

After all, it has been weeks since the separation and although he hasn’t said anything outright, I have sensed that he was getting ready to move on.

He no fell longer quiet when I asked him questions about his day, and the thought of having to say goodbye to me, no longer seemed to make him look so sad.

He started dropping a new name into his conversations with me.

Just casually at first, but then every little thing seemed to remind him of a person I did not know.  Of something this person had said or done, something that had made him laugh.

I knew he would not be all mine forever, so seeing him happy, made me happy too.

It was good to see him back to his old self; chatting away animatedly, cracking jokes.

I wondered if this could actually be the real thing, or if they were still only just getting to know each other.

Whether perhaps he was spending too much time with one person, when he might be better to keep his options open for a little while longer instead.

But it was not my place to interfere.

All I could do, was give them the space to spend time together and see if the feeling was mutual.

It was.

So, parents were introduced.

And, a date was organised.

A playdate.

For it would seem that my son has made his first new friend at school.

Aw this is so cute. It really is a special moment when they reach out and make their very first friend, all by themselves. Odd for a mummy though, isn’t it?!

Oh bless him – this school thing is as nerve wracking for us as it is for them x
